ML Bevel Reflect

Jan. 31, 2014 Email This Post Email This Post

This Plug-in uses Light Probe images, HDRi Probe Images or Environment Maps, commonly used in as the environment source of light for 3D objects, to create highly reflective objects in GIMP. Along with the source code, binary executables are included for Windows_x32, Windows_x64 and Linux_x64.

To achieve the best results from this plug-in, the Bevel Reflect Logo Script is highly recommended. The BRL script is extremely versatile and corrects several issues with the stand alone plug-in.

In Version 2.0, I’ve updated ML Bevel Reflect to include new parameters, allowing control over bevel depth (reflection distance) for each of the 3 bevel options, as shown below.

Installing in Windows
Copy the .exe file to GIMP’s plug-ins folder. You don’t need any of the other files in the zip, so make sure you just copy MLBevelReflect.exe to your GIMP plug-ins folder. If your OS is 64bit, use the 64bit version. If your OS is 32bit, use the 32bit version. All Windows binaries for this plug-in have been tested and are malware free.

Installing in Linux
Copy MLBevelReflect to GIMP’s plug-ins folder. You don’t need any of the other files in the zip, so make sure you just copy MLBevelReflect to your GIMP plug-ins folder. Ensure the file has executable permissions in Linux. If your Linux OS is 64bit, use the 64bit version. If your Linux OS is 32bit, use the 32bit version.

Installing in MAC OS X
Uncompress MLBevelReflect and place it in your ~/Library/Application Support/GIMP/2.8/plug-ins folder. Restart Gimp.
Note: Built for Partha’s McGimp 2.8, which can be found at Partha’s Place.

  1. […] endless variations of several types of environment maps, including spherical maps for use with the ML Bevel Reflect […]

  2. I’m wondering if there is a chance this will work on a mac version of GIMP??

  3. partha maybe

    • Yes. partha would probably be a good choice. He’s a member of GIMP Chat but I haven’t seen him on there lately. You could send him an email and ask. If you can get your hands on a MAC binary, I’ll host it here.

Thanx for sharing. But is there a plugin for
    windows x32?

  5. I will include it in my next build.

As for the Mac binary, note that I built McGimp 2.8.10 quite a while ago. Mitch is supposed to wrap up 2.8.12 soon. So, if you can wait, it’ll be available soon in McGimp and the Windows versions.

I’ll also include the new scrolling interface. :)

Have not been on Gimpchat for a while due to other commitments. :(

    Will rectify that soon. :)

    Thanks,
    Partha

  6. GnuTux,

I went ahead and built it anyway and emailed it to you.

Note: It will only work with McGimp 2.8 since I don’t know the library structure for the other builds.

    Thanks,
    Partha

  7. Are there detailed instructions.. step by step of how to install this and show up in GIMP. I have installed this under plug-ins.. double clicked on it.. NOthing happened.. Its frustrating when u are a beginner and there are no STEP-BY STEP.. instructions.. Thank you.. especially where to find stuff.. I do not see how to “Create Logo MENU). I see how to create logos.. but this installation does not show on the list. Thanks

    • ML Bevel Reflect needs to be installed in your GIMP plug-ins folder. The location of this folder varies, depending on which OS version you have and where you’ve chosen to install GIMP. For this reason, no exact step by step install instructions can be created.

Once ML Bevel Reflect is installed you can install the Bevel Reflect Logo Script in your GIMP scripts folder.

To determine the menu location of any script or plug-in on this site by, simply click the details link.

For further installation assistance regarding GIMP plug-ins, it would be better to post a question on the forums: http://gimpchat.com
